BIOGRAPHIE

Paola Calvo is a spanish Director and Cinematographer born in the big city of Caracas (Venezuela). Paola graduated in Audiovisual Communication at the Universidad Complutense Madrid in 2005. Her interests in the image as a powerful way of storytelling, brought her to study photography and film editing. In 2006 she began studying cinematography at the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin (dffb). In 2012 she co-directed with Steffen Köhn”A Tale of two Islands”, a two channel video installation which was shown at Berlinale Forum Expanded. In 2014 she won the Best Cinematography Award at the 10th New Berlin Film Award Festival for “The Visitor”, a film by Katarina Schröter. Wanting to represent sexuality in a poetic way and with a personal political stament, she made “Violently Happy” the culmination of her studies at the Film Academy, a 92 Minutes Documentary, theatrically shown in Germany, and financially supported byBerlin Film Fonds. Paola directed, photographed and co-produced the film.
